Earth Day 2020: Sunreef Yachts Eco – a Virtual Press Conference

On Earth Day 2020 Sunreef Yachts held a virtual press conference to discuss the progress of the shipyard’s new Eco range of sustainable catamarans. Sustainability expert and Formula 1 champion Nico Rosberg has joined the online event to talk about the current developments with Sunreef Yachts’ Founder and President Francis Lapp and R&D Director Nicolas Lapp.

Initiated with the first electric Sunreef 50 and Sunreef 60, the Sunreef Yachts Eco catamaran range is a complete, 360 degree concept for eco cruising. To offer the best responsible yachting experience, the shipyard combines electric propulsion, smart energy management, new solar power solutions and sustainable design.

It is vital that the industry follows the growing demand for more sustainable crafts. We are talking about the future of yachting and I know Sunreef Yachts can make a change. Sunreef Yachts Eco catamarans are a concept going far beyond electric propulsion systems. Everything on board: from batteries to fabrics and structural materials to water management - reflects a new yachting philosophy.

Small Business Making a Big Difference

Ushood is currently meeting today’s challenges with determination, innovation, and generosity.

Through their philanthropic program, Cher On, Ushood donates a portion of proceeds to a non-profit of the customer’s choosing. Cher On is now donating masks and apparel to local organizations. The masks are going to staff and volunteers serving their community, and a supply of sun shirts and base layers with built-in face masks have been distributed to volunteers who assist the families of immunocompromised children.

Unprecedented times and challenges are defining moments of character. As individuals and businesses across the country face their futures with uncertainty, people are rising to meet the needs of others. Small business owners are some of the most vulnerable, many having put everything they have into pursuing their dream, protecting their hard-earned investment, and taking on the pressures of employing others.

Ushood is familiar with the limited amount of textile manufacturing in America, as all of their products are 100% American-made. The choice to support US communities by manufacturing in the US adds time and expense, reducing company profit. However, the founders believe, now more than ever, it is critical to strengthen and rebuild US manufacturing.
Ushood is a family-owned business based in Colorado that offers 100% Made in the USA sun shirts & base layers with maximum skin protection.

Zeelander Yachts Confirms Strong Sales

Zeelander Yachts has announced its sales figures for Q1 of 2020 and, despite the current uncertainty in the world’s economy, the established Dutch yard has revealed a 30% increase in sales over the same period in 2019, which was also considered an excellent three months commercially.

“In 2019, we had very good numbers in terms of launches and production,” comments Sietse Koopmans, Founder and Chairman of Zeelander Yachts. “The world premiere of our flagship Z72 yacht and opening of our North American department were true highlights of the year.”

Thanks to these positive results, Zeelander Yachts plans to increase the current shipyard territory and production volume. “We are also developing ideas to expand the range, so stay tuned for more details,” disclosed Sietse Koopmans.

After confirming its strong order book details, the next significant milestone for Zeelander Yachts is expected in June. The shipyard will deliver a new Z55 for a client in Florida; with a smart, sophisticated design and hard-edged look offset by the builder’s signature curves.
Zeelander Yachts opened its US headquarters in Fort Lauderdale, Florida earlier this year. The company’s North American department has several boats available for viewing and sea trials.

The Florida unit’s hybrid service center includes two full-time staff members dedicated to customer service needs, warranty issues, and guidance on best practices for the cleaning and maintenance of yachts.

Three Top Marina Companies Come Together to Support One Charity

Beginning Memorial Day 2019, Suntex Marinas, along with Safe Harbor and Westrec Marinas, accepted donations to enter into a raffle for a chance to win a brand new 20-foot Bayliner deckboat, trailer and 150HP Mercury motor provided by Suntex to boost fundraising for Folds of Honor. Since 2007, Folds of Honor has worked to support the nearly nine-out-of-ten military spouses and children who do not qualify for federal scholarships. More than one million dependents have been financially affected by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The raffle was heavily promoted by all three companies via email blasts, displays, and posters, as well as during various events including the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The joint effort culminated in a winner when Suntex awarded the Folds of Honor Boat Raffle Prize to its new rightful owner at their Annual Conference in late February. Mike VanCampen, president of Kansas City Honor Flight, purchased the winning ticket at the Volunteers of America LPGA golf tournament. Honor Flight is a non-profit organization established in 2012. To date, its members have provided all expenses paid trips for 2,600 WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans from Kansas to visit the Washington DC Memorials dedicated to their services to our country.

It was a win for all, and led the way for future causes where the industry can unite and make a difference.

Lürssen Yachts Current Situation

Due to current situation regarding the Corona crisis, we have implemented numerous preventive measures at all our shipyard locations. In addition to the various standard hygiene measures, we have also introduced, for example shift working in production so less employees are working at the same time, introduced zoning areas to keep unnecessary contact to a minimum and also work-from-home opportunities for various office functions. These measures follow the current recommendations that come from the Robert Koch Institute, as well as the specifications of the German health authorities. In addition, we are in close contact with the regulatory bodies on a daily basis so that we can reassess the situation on site each day and ensure we adjust our operating procedures at short notice if necessary. Throughout the ongoing situation, we have continued to operate all our North German shipyards.

Abaco’s Premier Resort and Marina Is on Its Way Back!

The Abaco Beach Resort has dusted itself off! It has only been ten months since the passage of Category 5 Hurricane Dorian, one of the strongest Atlantic storms in recent memory raged, over Marsh Harbour, Abaco, in the Bahamas. But that is just a part of the story!

Shortly after the hurricane had passed, roads throughout the city center and major tourist zones were cleared of debris and major planning on the rebuilding of Abaco had begun. The island’s lifeline, the main airport opened quickly as it was a crucial step on the road to recovery in assisting evacuees off the island and bringing supplies onto the island. By mid-November both domestic and international airlines resumed service to the island. BahamasAir opened routes from Nassau and West Palm Beach, American Airlines from Miami, and Silver Airways from Fort Lauderdale. Smaller inter-island commuter planes resumed services from Grand Bahama.

Today, power, portable water and cellphone service have all been restored. These were extremely encouraging signs and an incredible accomplishment to say the least, given the devastation that remained from Hurricane Dorian. By far the greatest glimmer of hope to impact the redevelopment and resurgence of the tourism product was demonstrated by the trailblazing ingenuity, proactive response and out of the box thinking by the owners of the “iconic” Abaco Beach Resort (ABR).

70' Striker Refit

American Yacht Restoration, Inc. is proud to have assisted in the refit of a 70’ Striker. The vessel interior was stripped back down to her bare hull and refitted with a mega yacht styled interior designed by Paturzo Yacht Designs. Calhoun and Co. oversaw the naval architecture required for removing the transom and stretching the hull from 70’ to become 74’ overall.

The exterior features a new paint job as well as a new tower. The enlarged cockpit features a custom built aluminum fish box surrounded by a golden teak deck. Teak steps up the mezzanine lead the way to the new sliding doors into the salon. Throughout the interior, the clean lines of the walnut woodwork is adorned by the various colors and textures of the soft goods providing a very modern feel. The original galley walls were removed allowing for an open concept layout of the salon.

The orientation of the VIP stateroom was changed from two separate single berths into a large double berth which required the relocation of multiple air handlers. The captain’s and crew staterooms as well as the shared head were completely updated. The master stateroom and master head were taken completely back to the bare hull which allowed for the installation of Soundown sound deadening materials. The large master berth is highlighted by the accent lighting throughout the stateroom. The master head was completely reconfigured and now includes a marble walk-in shower.
